From October 20th to 24th, 2024, the Joint International Conference on Supercomputing in Nuclear Applications + Monte Carlo, organized by Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives ( CEA ) was successfully held at the Palais des Congrès. Professor George XU from the Institute of Nuclear Medicine Physics was invited to participate and give a report entitled ARCHER-a Monte Carlo code for multi-particle radiotherapy through GPU-accelerated simulation and DL-based denoising.
Since Professor George XU first proposed the concept of real-time Monte Carlo dose calculation in 2015, the realization of real-time dose calculation has become possible with the improvement of GPU hardware performance and the development of new artificial intelligence technologies.
At the SNA+MC 2024 Conference, Professor George XU elaborated on the research progress of Monte Carlo dose calculation ARCHER, including the application of the Monte Carlo denoising model based on deep learning convolutional neural networks and the research on GPU-accelerated Monte Carlo dose calculation methods for photons, protons, carbon ions and neutrons. The accuracy of ARCHER is fully validated by comparison with generic Monte Carlo methods (TOPAS, GEANT4, etc.) and testing of clinical patient data. In terms of calculation time, ARCHER can calculate the dose of a photon therapy patient in 0.2 seconds and a proton or carbon ion therapy patient in 0.5 seconds.
Wisdom Technology has been committed to applying the ARCHER Monte Carlo dose calculation technology to the field of radiotherapy. Its self-developed radiotherapy product, 3D Independent Dose Validation System ArcherQA with high precision and efficiency dose validation capability, ensuring the accuracy and safety of radiotherapy plans and providing more reliable assurance for doctors and patients.
The SNA+MC 2024 Conference not only focuses on advances in traditional areas such as Monte Carlo simulation and high-performance computing in nuclear applications, but also covers new topics related to emerging scientific and technological challenges. After more than 10 years of development, ARCHER has been well known to experts in the field of Monte Carlo dose calculation. The latest research results of ARCHER presented by Professor George XU at this conference have brought new ideas for the future development of Monte Carlo dose calculation. At the same time, Wisdom Technology is also looking forward to establishing cooperative relations with more medical institutions, scientific research institutions and enterprises around the world to jointly promote technological innovation and development in the field of radiotherapy.
